World premiere: Symphonic performances of Aznavour's music are now available
2024-07-09

In collaboration with Acba bank, the "Hayastan" All-Armenian Fund, and the State Symphony Orchestra of Armenia, a grand premiere was held to debut symphonic performances of the beloved songs of Charles Aznavour, the world-famous chansonnier and national hero of Armenia, on his 100th anniversary.

As part of the premiere, for the first time, the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra and the world-famous cellist Kamil Toma performed Aznavour's works, which were recorded under the world-famous Deutsche Grammophon label.

Aznavour's music runs through my veins. I grew up listening to his music at home, and when I was studying in Germany, I would immerse myself in Aznavour's and Edith Piaf's songs with my headphones on. His lyrics tell stories that resonate with me deeply. When I perform, I can feel his presence and envision the legendary artist right before me," shared the renowned cellist Camille Thoma.

The project was financed with funds generated from non-cash payments made by more than 250,000 Visa “BARERAR” cardholders of Acba bank, from which the bank directs funds to the special account of “Hayastan” All-Armenian Fund at the expense of its profit.

"It’s easy to be charitable with Acba bank, just use Acba bank's Visa “BARERAR” Card, make payments with it, and the bank will transfer certain amounts to the "Hayastan" All-Armenian Fund at the expense of its income," said Arsen Melkonyan, Deputy CEO for Business Operations at Acba bank.

"We have established two projects dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Charles Aznavour. The first project involved the release of the "Aznavuriana" album, while the second project is this special concert. Today marks a significant event in the cultural life of Armenia. We are representing not only the symphony orchestra, Acba bank, and “Hayastan” All-Armenian Fund, but also the entire Republic of Armenia," stated Haykak Arshamyan, the executive director of “Hayastan” All-Armenian Fund.

"Through this initiative, we have successfully integrated Charles Aznavour's legacy into instrumental culture. It is a remarkable achievement to have our work acknowledged by prestigious institutions like 'Deutsche Gramophone', which helps to elevate our international presence," emphasized Sergey Smbatyan, the Founder, Artistic Director, and Principal Conductor of the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra.

"This initiative is important to present Charles Aznavour as a composer. His melodies are played on the cello, which is known to be the closest instrument to the human voice," said Sargis Balbabyan, director of the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra.

For more than ten years, Acba bank transferred around 700 million drams to the special account of the “Hayastan” All-Armenian Fund. The accumulated funds are used to implement various projects, from education to culture and renewable energy.

Recordings were made in Paris and Yerevan to present Aznavour's legacy with symphonic instrumentation. Guest artists also participated in the creation of the album.

The album is available on Deutsche Grammophon's official website and on all popular music platforms.
